1, 4 & 3…

If you ask people to come up with 3 shapes, they will almost always say circle, square & triangle.

What is interesting is when we correlate this numerically.  The proper sequence of counting progresses with 1, 2 and 3.  That is obvious.  But what isn’t obvious is why this translates to 1, 3 and 4 with shapes.

Why do we skip number 2?

We tend to scroll over the shape that is the most closely connected to our bodies.  It is called the vesica piscis:

We find this shape by over-lapping two circles at each of their center points.  One plus one equals two.  While it makes sense that we as humans would say 1, 2, 3  circle (1) vesica (2) triangle (3) we do not.  We say 1, 3, 4 when it comes to shape.  Where is the missing piece?

My friend Robert Pasternak pointed this out in a gallery he did years ago.  Still, to this day go out and ask as many people as you can to tell you three shapes.  Some may try to be clever by saying ‘hexagon, circle and triangle’ but most will say the square.

If you do find someone who says circle, vesica and triangle then take them out for coffee.  They will at least be interesting to talk to.

Drunk post

I promised myself ONE drunk post this year and here it is.  No edits or proofreading.  I just came home from lots of beers with my friend James and my burps smell like nachos.  Bad nachos.  I cannot stand when restaurants think that it is ok to serve shit on a plate.  Why bother?  Hey!!! Here’s $15 for some shit on a plate.  Thanks assholes!!!

It’s Friday and this post will come out in a few days.  It’ll probably be pretty boring if I don’t get into something funny fast.  Yikes!!!  God forbid this is like a conversation with drunk Chris.  Shit.  Now you’re staring at me and I’m talking about how I blog for a “living” and do “art”.

It’s 1:13 am.

Now it’s 1:20 and I am over-thinking this drunk post to death.  What would i say if i was drunk?  Who cares?  I’m drunk and isn’t that the point?

Or perhaps I’m not drunk and this is clever?  huh?  I bet you never thought of that!!!

Brilliant!!!

Not really.

It’s 1:24 am.

It’s 1:26 am.

I spent some time there thinknig of wonderful clever things to write about and my hands did nothing!  Now, I am staring at the word “thinknig” wondering if I should correct it.  Fuck it!!!

Thinknig isn’t offensive.

Pride

This picture was in my inbox yesterday and I felt proud.

This was a commission piece that I did a few months back and this was the first time I saw it on the wall with furniture.

Pride is an interesting thing.  It’s not a bad emotion.  I don’t feel pride in the sense that I am above anything.  I feel pride in the form of confidence knowing that when I set out to do something… I can and will.  Pride is not settling for less than satisfactory.  Life is meant to be great.

We all struggle and we all have victories.  This was a victory.

11 attributes of Christmas

Over the next 11 days, I will be posting what I consider to be the 11 attributes of Christmas.  These attributes apply to all human beings regardless of race or religion so please don’t get carried away with semantics.  I believe that if everyone on Earth made these attributes a priority then all religions would dissolve into the way.

Life is a relationship and for better or worse, we are all in it.  Let’s make it awesome all year instead of day per week where we pretend that we’re good and one day a year where we share with one another.

LOVE

The first attribute is love.  I may be over-simplifying this but just love one another.  Love your enemies.  Feed hungry people.  Clothe naked or cold people (unless they want to be naked).  Give of yourself with no forethought of your own well-being.  Think of ways to make your family, community or world a better place and then TAKE ACTION!

Make simplicity a priority.

Love can be cultivated, harvested and planted as seeds.  Consider yourself to be a love farmer.  Ok, that last sentence was cheesy but you catch my drift.  Today, as you move about your reality, do your best to simply acknowledge the child in others.  Everyone you see was once 3 years old and super cute.  See this and just smile inside knowing that they are present on Earth.  Every person you witness today deserves honor and respect because we all share this common struggle together.  Love them as you would be love and blow their minds with kindness.

I am taking my own suggestions to heart.  The worst case scenario is that we will feel great for the next 11 days participating this way.

Enjoy one another.  We are all part of one big dysfunctional family.

Working man

I was thinking about the food on my plate the other day.

Besides the fact that I’m thankful for the abundance in my life, I couldn’t help but think about all of the people (my brothers & sisters) who make this happen on a perpetual basis.

The farmers who grow the food and struggle to survive due to economic politics.  Thank you.  The processor plants who employ thousands of workers who ensure a clean and well packaged product.  I appreciate those who work each day to ensure quality and quantity.  The truckers that spend countless hours on the road.  I applaud you.  The retailers who conveniently present products for our consumption and choice.  I am grateful to every one of my brothers and sisters working to make this whole ship float and stay floating.

The world needs art and creativity; yes, but it is the workers that ensure our security and allow the artists to be free enough to enhance the lives of those around them.  It’s a circle called community and my hope is that we can all one day recognize that we are part of one thing.

The only thing that I do not appreciate are those people working to maintain bureaucracies that keep the rest of us from realizing the truth of our unity.  Shame on you motherfuckers!

Energy Matters

Energy can not be created or destroyed.  This means that everything that ever was and ever will be…

Is.

I’ve been contemplating this for years and every time I pick it up, my mind stretches as my brain tightens.  Some of us humans walk about believing that we are accidental bodies in a random universe.  Our mind is on matter so to speak hence the term “what’s the matter”?  Another side to this is that each of us are the center of an infinite universe.  I’m ok with that ideology but it is not what I see.  That seems like a narrow, ego-centric way of seeing the world.

An infinite universe would imply that the center is everywhere and the circumference is nowhere but I’m not sure that means I’m in charge or that I need to figure it all out.  I also let go of these matters because matter is just dense energy and to me, that means trapped energy.

It makes more sense that everything ‘appears’ or ’tends’ to be.  This is more accurate than “this is what I feel or think” or “that’s just the way it is”.  This phenomena we call ’life’ is an arising.  There are many differing groups (scientific and religious) that have become so dogmatic that there is no talking to them whatsoever.  I use science and religion loosely because these groups are political… they have an agenda.

I’ll clarify.  Science is our birthright tendency to explore this phenomena we called the universe.  We must be open and curious in order to expand our awareness.  If the entire “UNI VERSE” is one phenomena arising as a tendency and we are that arising then it follow suit that the purpose of religion is to re-legion; rejoin or re-yolk us to the original form and function.  Otherwise, it’s just more bullshit ideology that perpetuates our illusion of separateness.

It is easier to believe than it is to understand, and whatever put us here gave us all the tools to understand.

Much like a loving observing parent allows us to be ourselves.  We are given all of the tools.  Some of us attempt to control reality through knowledge and power.  Some of us argue about whose dad is stronger and better.  Some of us smile with the subtle knowing that we are loved and are love.

Regardless, everything is ONE thing.  I cannot understand for the life of me how we became so easily fooled into believing that we must fight for survival, rebel and do it on our own.  It is like an illness or worse… species adolescence.

Whatever your ideas or beliefs are, I suggest that you take the day or a moment to contemplate how absolutely fucking incredible it is that any of this even exists in the first place.

I end with the beginning:

Energy can not be created or destroyed.  This means that everything that ever was and ever will be…

Is.

E A R T H

H E A R T

I just love how this looks.

Our Heart keeps us alive.

Our Earth provides all we need to sustain.

We can draw a direct line from our Heart to the center of Earth while standing at any point on the planet.  The perfection of a circle I suppose.

Often I’m reminded that my Heart is big enough to encompass this beautiful planet we live on.

Embrace life…

Because that is what you are.

Life as a business

Until we let go of the business model for life, we will continue our descent into microchipped slavery.  I don’t view life as a business.  The world?  Yes.  Life? No.  The trouble is when we mistake the world for life.  I’m the first to remind people of the fact that there is no ‘real world’ when they say “oh yeah, welcome to the real world”.

The world is a giant corporation that most people don’t see.  We are kept busy with company X or company Y but, we would be wise to recognize that the world is run as a business.  There is a board of directors.  I’m not about to get into conspiracy theory but the fact is that there are about 2000 people as part of 13 families that control the decisions.  Bloodlines.

The rest of us are seen as chattle (capital or cattle).  On lower levels of this business are employers and employees.  Regardless, the word employ comes from French meaning “to use”.

One thing that we aren’t told is that we are shareholders in this corporation.  If we are not operating as a shareholder, then we are an employee.  It’s that simple.  How to show up to the corporation as a shareholder would take up a book (which, by the way, I’m almost finished writing)!!!

The sad part is that when we see the world as a business, our focus turns to profitability and capitalization.  We neglect the simple emotional rewards and tend to forget the talents that were innately given to us.  How can we turn it all around?  I don’t think we can.  It is an individual choice and not a government mandate or collective movement.  The choice of freedom over security is a difficult one but it is worthwhile considering.  Keep in mind that when I say freedom I am not talking about doing whatever you want whenever you want.  That is irresponsible.  Freedom has to be balanced with responsibility.

The world rewards those who step on others to get to the top of the pyramid.  The truth is that you won’t get to the top.  You will at best get to CEO of company X or Y.  The top is reserved for bloodlines who do not give a fuck about us.

Do you know that it is easier to receive funding for an import/export business that employs 8 year old Chinese kids than it is to receive funding to build a new local community club?  Such is the business model for the world.

Tomorrows post will be about the non-profit business model.  Remember, every thing that we experience (including money) is just an idea.  My advice today (besides not taking advice from bloggers) is to get outside, look at the clouds or sky, give thanks for your breath and go for a walk by the river.  This is the real world.

The God Fear…

This may sound bizarre to most but that is perfectly fine with me.  Just stick it on the “if I didn’t think he was crazy before” pile.  Life is risk.  Here we go…

What I mean by fear is respect and reverence with insight into what is possible.  I say this with love in hopes that some will at least ponder it.

Most of us go about our day sitting in chairs, eating at tables and walking on floors, concrete or grass.  It is all an assumption we make founded on an illusion of what we are told or perceive with our sense organs.

In my twenties, I had an experience that at first, I wished I could erase but later came to appreciate.  In this experience I realized that every molecule, atom, proton and electron that comprises what we call “reality” is being held together by a force that science hasn’t really been able to explain.  There are a lot of fancy theories out there though.

I felt the presence of this force and knew without a doubt that this was the same creative force that created me, you and everything that we see and don’t see.  The dust, the air and neutrinos come from this presence.  I was in awe.

Next I experienced what would happen if that creative presence simply let go.  Imagine every atom undoing itself instantly while we are still conscious.  The hard floor that I take for granted every day is actually energy condensed to a slow vibration, held together electromagnetically.  It isn’t real, yet I can jump up and down on it.

This experience was awe-inspiring yet terrifying at the same time.  From this point, I didn’t become afraid and hide away.  After all, where would I hide besides inside of something made out of the material held together by this infinite presence?  There is literally nowhere to go.

So here is my next thought:  If this force is love and we are in a perpetual state of grace, what is there to fear?  Really?  From that point, I no longer feared what any human, government, height or insect could do to me.  I respected what that creative force could do.  I understood this force to be love.  It is hard to present scientific findings concluding that the universe is held together by grace and love however.  That just sounds ridiculous I know, but I feel it’s true.  Why wouldn’t I invest the rest of my life getting to know this presence better?  Why would I choose to fear anything other than the one who could collapse the entire field?

God is not inert.  God is a verb.

Some people may get hung up on words.  If you were paying attention in some of my previous posts you would understand that a) words are symbols we use to point to phenomena and b) I really don’t give a shit what people think.  Our individual beliefs will get their ass kicked by truth.
