100%

My close friend Reid from www.readreidread.com once asked me what 100% of the dandelion in front of us was as we sat in an open field.  I began to study the little plant.  ”Well, it’s not just what you see on the surface”, I replied.

We determined that the dandelion would die if it weren’t for the soil, rain and sunlight so that is part of it.  The Earth that the plant is embedded in isn’t just the soil beneath the surface; it is the entire Earth.  So is the dandelion the entire Earth?  What does the Earth exist within?  Could the Earth exist without the Sun?  Our Sun orbits another larger central Sun called Sirius Canicula.  This dandelion does not seem to end.

We, the observe play a role in the dandelions existence as well.  Without the observer, things could exist but to what extent?  Would it matter?  In observing the dandelion we noticed that it is not just petals, stem and roots.  That is just the beginning.  100% of any one apparent thing is the totality of all things.  Forces seen and unseen interconnected yet appearing function independently.

Think about this today as you ask yourself what 100% of YOU is.  You may be surprised to find out that you are more than you may have initially thought.

R E A C T I O N

I love the lessons hidden in the language that I use in this life.  I appreciate that I can simply move the ‘C’ in one word to make a new word and then make a point about both words…

The human being is an experiential artist.  We create every single day on a blank canvass and this is our opportunity for expression.

The ever so popular saying “shit happens” comes to mind as I ponder this.  We are all subject to circumstances, favorable or otherwise and the moment shit happens is our opportunity to choose.  That is our power:  Choice.

Are we reacting?  When the shit hits the proverbial fan, do we become the shit by reacting without thinking?  Do we panic based on past experience that it’s all bad?  Are we worrying ourselves to death over that which is beyond our control?

Or

Are we creating?  Do we step back and look for the opportunity to choose a different behavior or way of seeing the problem?  Are we using the experience as molding clay or a stepping stone to growth?

Some of the biggest discoveries on Earth happen because mistakes are made and then creative minds step back to observe reality.  Life is a masterpiece so don’t live it reacting to the world around you.  Dance with it and create.  In this way you’re more likely to leave this world with a smile asking “what comes next?????

Growing pains

“Ignorance is bliss, until they take your bliss away”.  – Josh Homme

We can accept our fate or choose our destiny.

Something changed in my brain today for the better.  The oblivious became the obvious I suppose.  For years my unconscious guiding principle had been:  Observe.  Resist.  Force.  I had the awareness part down but had been lacking in right action due to a desperate attempt to save a world that does not desire to be saved.

My newest principle in life is simple:  Observe.  Adapt.  Evolve.

I know that Einstein’s definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result yet this is exactly what I had been doing… albeit unconscious, but that’s hardly an excuse.

I call this ’default thinking’.

Default thinking is not really thinking.  It is auto-pilot.  While this may seem to keep us safe for now, it is actually detrimental to our long-term well-being.  The reason for this is simple:  Life is not a passive event.  It is an active participation… a work in progress so to speak.  If we don’t decide for our self then someone decides for us.  Just like a muscle that isn’t used will atrophy, so is our ability to transform circumstances.

I would ask myself; why does it seem that most people are in a race to mediocrity?  I no longer believe that they are.  I just observe that most people, despite the books they read, religion they preach or politics they practice are highly skilled at keeping in line with the status quo.  The status quo is safe and predictable but is it joyful?  This is not necessarily a bad thing.  It’s just what’s up on planet Earth.

How might your perspective change if you found, for a fact, that the natural state of a human being is radiant joy?

I re-iterate that we can either accept our fate or choose our destiny.  For years I was caught up in my hippie ‘go with flow’ attitude and wondered why all my dreams/goals didn’t just magically fall into place.  I know why now and it’s almost embarrasing how obvious it is.  I will continue to be kind, loving, fun, funny etc. as those are my values however my actions will change.  Life is fucking great.

OBSERVE.  ADAPT.  EVOLVE.
