I was waiting for a bus in downtown Winnipeg.
For those of you that don’t know, Winnipeg is the center of everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It is dreadful and wonderful. We are survivors. Of what, I am not sure…
Inside the heated bus shack trouble was brewing. A large guy approached a small kid in a threatening manner. From what I heard, it was over drug turf. I’m not defending the kid. His intentions in being there were far less than pure. What disturbed me was that all of this bullshit was happening amidst some of our elders and innocent folks who are just trying to catch a ride home at 2:50 in the afternoon.
As this was happening inside, the police were outside pulling over two older women in a van who committed the unpardonable act of turning left on a red light. Why? So we can raise more provincial funds for police who are busy issuing traffic tickets while fuck-face gangs take over a city?
(On a humorous side note: Wordpress actually spell checked ‘fuckface’ with the suggestion that I hyphenate.)
I don’t normally rant about this kind of stuff but it affected me today. I’m angry. This is about our priorities as a people. Why do we put up with bullying? How is it possible that 700 000 people in a city can be threatened by 1000 gang members? Fear is a bad excuse and so is expecting ‘representitives’ to handle our problems.
Why do we as humans put up with OTHER HUMANS in the form of government or police issuing financial burdens to pay for their ineffective gong show?
I don’t have the answers but I’m pretty sure that it’s nothing that giving the money authoring power back to the people and hiring a group of snipers wouldn’t fix.
